Important reminders for employees
It is important to note that with recent events around the world, if the area an employee plans to visit is already or becomes subject to a Travel Advisory while they are there, it may affect their coverage.
Employees must check their destination in advance, no matter where they intend to travel. It is the responsibility of the employee to inquire prior to his/her departure whether services apply in the country they are visiting. Travel Emergency Assistance applies only to designated countries and may change from time to time.
For travel updates, employees can visit the Canadian government website at http://travel.gc.ca or call Allianz Global Assistance at the following numbers for pre-travel information:
- In USA/Canada 1-800-321-9998
- Elsewhere call collect 519-742-2800
The Allianz Global Assistance mobile App, Travelmedic, is another handy resource that can be accessed while travelling. It provides employees with emergency medical expertise including key medical assistance, travel alerts, hospital listings, and first aid terminology translations. The app can be accessed in the Apple App Store at http://bit.ly/1A6CmD and in the Google Play store at http://bit.ly/1p2qiv0%22
The Travel Emergency Assistance Program covers sudden, unexpected and unforeseen travel medical emergencies. Even though the employee’s doctor may say it’s okay to travel, he/she is not aware of the provisions of the policy. It is important to know that they may not be seen as stable enough to travel if there has been any change in their health status in the three months prior to their departure date. If they require assistance while travelling for a medical condition not deemed stable, the medical event could be considered as not sudden, unexpected or unforeseen. That means their claim may not be eligible.
Employees should check their Benefit card prior to travelling for the following information:
- four-digit Allianz Global Assistance ID Number – 9094,
- Group Policy and Certificate Numbers, and
- Emergency Travel Assistance contact phone numbers.
Coverage for events such as trip cancellation, loss of luggage and trip interruption is not included under this program. We suggest employees obtain additional coverage for these events.
