The JHSC would like to share some very important information regarding decorative flowerpots on your patio, balcony, deck or porch. These flowerpots often contain peat moss (mixed with potting soil.) There is a potential for these pots to catch fire. Due to extremely dry and hot conditions, the peat moss may spontaneously combust and begin to smolder, with the potential of a bigger fire. This situation occurred this week at a CLGW home. Thankfully no one was injured and the fire was extinguished. There was damage to the house but it could have been much worse. We are asking the site reps to move these planters away from the program to a safe location. If your program rep is on vacation, please have another member of your team do this.
- IMMEDIATELY MOVE POTS AWAY FROM THE HOME/ WINDOWS (inform your supervisor when you have done this)
- WATER POTS DAILY
- NEVER EXTINGUISH CIGARETTES IN A PLANTER
Your prompt attention in this matter is greatly appreciated!!
Regards,
JHSC Members
