Local dignitaries and potential-elects at Cityview Village, getting an update about the Habitat for Humanity Wellington Guelph Dufferin development and partnerships with Community Living Guelph Wellington and the County of Wellington.

Last Thursday, Habitat for Humanity Wellington Dufferin Guelph, the County of Wellington and Community Living Guelph Wellington welcomed local dignitaries and potential elects, as we shared about our housing partnership that will bring opportunities for people with developmental disabilities.

Check out the photos from the announcement, here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1828219103914602&type=1&l=17dad9329b

This partnership is built on a foundation that everyone deserves opportunity and community. Cityview Village, a 28-unit development, is an inclusive community that brings people together to build strength, stability and independence.

“The partnership we have developed with Habitat for Humanity is a significant one, as housing has long been noted as one of the most significant Social Determinants of Health. With this partnership, the People We Support have access to safe, decent and affordable housing that fits their needs and allows them the choice to determine the supports they receive”, says Michelle Noorzad, Habitat Partnership Lead for CLGW.

As we work alongside Habitat, to have people we support here at CLGW move into three different units in the coming months, we’re also excited to learn that other Community Living’s are following this model to help alleviate the burden on the residential waitlist.

Over the course of the next two years, CLGW has committed to volunteering and offering ‘sweat equity’ as part of our partnership. If you’re interested in volunteering, stay tuned to your inboxes or contact Michelle at michellenoorzad@clgw.ca. As opportunities come about, we’ll send those out!

Also stay tuned for a date in November or December, when everyone is invited to celebrate the Home Dedication of these units to the people we support and Community Living Guelph Wellington.

The 2018 Norm Jary – ARC Industries Tournament was a huge success, thanks to golfers, sponsors and businesses who believe in community and inclusion.

It took a Net Score of -49, but Ian Clark, Cliff Arcand, Ronnie Hansen and Paul Harrison are the 41st Annual Norm Jary – ARC Industries Golf Tournament Champions!

On Monday July 9th, Victoria Park Valley Golf Course hosted one of the oldest benefit golf tournaments in Canada. With a field of 70 golfers, Community Living Guelph Wellington walked away the true champion. Funds raised will support people with developmental disabilities to connect more in their communities and achieve their potential and dreams.

Honourable mentions go to:

–          Longest Drive – Andy Lammer (Men) and Lori Savage (Women)

–          Closest to the Pin – Tom Lammer (Men) and Stephanie McCrone

–          And Guelph’s longest serving Mayor, Norm Jary, for continuing to support community and inclusion

Memo: WHMIS 2015 E-Training

See the original memo here.

Memo: WHMIS 2015 E-Training

The Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) 2015 is Canada’s new national hazard communication standard. This standard is part of the Globally Harmonized System for the Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) and is being phased in across Canada by December 2018. As part of this transition, all staff must be trained on these updated standards. The training provides information on the new WHMIS 2015 standard and will help you identify the new requirements and changes from your previous WHMIS training.

In the next few days, you will receive an e-mail in your CLGW webmail from postmaster@training.eworkplacetraining.com  with login ID and information to complete this required training. The training takes approximately 30 minutes to complete and will show as completed with a grade. You must receive a grade of 75% or higher to pass the exam. If you do not pass you must keep trying the test until you pass. Please note, each test will be different. If you need to leave in the middle of the session, just log out and when you return to finish just log back in using the link and ID and it will pick up where you left off. It will also state in the module that your Supervisor will be notified once you have passed the exam. Actually, I will be notified as the Administrator, not the Supervisor. HR will update the training record in Kronos weekly with notifications that I receive.

Note: If you have received CLGW WHMIS/Fire Training since November 2017 with Kim Aitken and George Wilson (Instructors) then you are not required to complete this e-training as you have already met the requirements and therefore, you will not receive an e-mail from postmaster@training.eworkplacetraining.com. If you are currently on a leave, this training will be set up for you upon your return.

In addition, I have been in touch with Cox Sanitation to ensure all of the Betco products, spray bottles and Safety Data Sheets will meet the requirements by the deadline. I will keep you posted with updates on this. If you have any questions, please just let me know. Thank you!

This mandatory training must be completed by August 31, 2018.

Empire Life – Changes to benefits related to OHIP+

See the original letter here.

Starting January 1, 2018 all Ontario residents age 24 and under who have OHIP coverage are automatically covered by OHIP+: Children and Youth Pharmacare.

OHIP+ covers all drugs currently eligible through the Ontario Drug Benefit (ODB) program. Additional drugs not covered by the ODB formulary may also be eligible for funding through the government Exceptional Access Program (EAP) under specific clinical circumstances.

The government Exceptional Access Program (EAP) enables access to drugs not funded on the Ontario Drug Benefit (ODB) formulary, or where no appropriate alternative is available on the ODB formulary. Doctors are required to submit a request to the government for consideration of coverage through the EAP on behalf of their patient. With an approved EAP request there will be full coverage for the cost of that medication.

Because drug funding decisions under the government EAP can take time, Empire Life, like other Canadian insurers, agreed to temporarily assist with coverage from January 1 to June 30, 2018, for the following specific categories of EAP drugs:

  • Antibiotics and anti-infectives
  • Blood thinners
  • Drugs with low EAP approval rates

Beginning on July 1, 2018, these drugs will no longer be eligible for coverage under the private plan unless a plan member’s application for coverage under the EAP is denied. If an EAP request is denied, the drug could be covered under your private drug plan if it is eligible, and subject to any plan design limitations.

ACTION REQUIRED

If you or your dependents are taking a drug on an ongoing basis that fits the above specific categories of drugs noted above, talk to your doctor to see if the drug you are taking could be eligible for funding under the government’s EAP. If it is — and your doctor recommends you continue to take the current drug — you should ask your doctor to submit an EAP request form now to avoid interruption of coverage on July 1, 2018.
